Air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps are those capable of extracting energy from the air. Having a high level of performance, they produce heating in winter, cooling in summer and domestic hot water (DHW) throughout the year. Those heat pumps guarantee unique performance even in the most adverse conditions and adapt to the needs of the installation at all times.

Ecoforest offers two types of air source heat pumps within the monobloc heat pump range: the ecoAIR+ PRO and ecoAIR+ EVI. The ecoAIR+ PRO is an air heat pump with propane as refrigerant and Inverter technology, enabling higher efficiencies and temperatures above 70°C for Domestic Hot Water (DHW) production. The ecoAIR+ EVI combines R410a inverter technology with a SCROLL compressor and exclusive EVI flash tank technology, offering heating in winter, cooling in summer, and domestic hot water (DHW) all year round, adapting well to the installation's needs even under tough conditions.

The ecoGEO+ & AU combination pairs an ecoGEO+ heat pump with an outdoor air source unit (AU), delivering exceptional efficiency in heating, cooling, and DHW production. This setup features a unique defrosting system that operates with the compressor off, without reversing the refrigeration cycle, making it a fully hydraulic installation. It eliminates the need for extra refrigerant and doesn't limit the distance between indoor and outdoor units. This design enhances component lifespan and enables the use of HTR technology, integrating smoothly into a hybrid geothermal-air-source collection system, presenting a unique solution in the market.

How does air source energy work?

Air source heat pumps leverage the outdoor air as a source of energy to deliver domestic hot water (DHW), heating, and cooling for buildings. Through the thermodynamic cycle, these pumps harness the energy present in the air to generate the needed thermal energy for the building.

Compared to ground source heat pumps, air source ones are more cost-effective, although their efficiency can be swayed by external environmental conditions, rendering their annual efficiency a tad lower. The installation process is straightforward, involving only the setup of an outdoor unit to capture air energy and an indoor unit. With a lower upfront cost than ground source pumps and a slightly lesser performance, air source heat pumps still outshine traditional heating systems by a wide margin in efficiency.
